The independent student newspaper at the University of Illinois since 1871

The Daily Illini

Since 1871, The Daily Illini has been the University of Illinois’ independent student newspaper. Distributed in print and digitally, The Daily Illini provides the campus community with its primary source for news, sports coverage, commentary and public opinion. A number of topical special editions — including our New Student Edition, Ebert Film Festival Guide, and semi-annual career and housing guides — round out our coverage of the University community.

The Daily Illini is one of the oldest and most recognized student newspapers, recently being named the best student newspaper and news website in Illinois.

Illini Media

Founded in 1911, Illini Media’s mission is to provide an experiential learning environment to complement University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s academic areas; to prepare Illinois students for future careers in print and digital media, broadcast, marketing, public relations, sales, fundraising and business; and to inform, enlighten and entertain the University of Illinois student community.

Illini Media is the not-for-profit parent company of The Daily Illini, the Illio yearbook, WPGU 107.1 and buzz magazine, and various digital properties. We are sustained by the generous contributions of advertisers, University of Illinois student fees, Illio yearbook sales, our alumni and friends.
