National Library Week recognizes contributions

As the second day of National Library Week unfolds, National Library Workers Day is celebrated. National Library Workers Day is a day for library staff, users and administrators to recognize the contributions made by library workers.

While the Undergraduate Library is not doing anything directly related to National Library Week, a reception for the Undergraduate Library’s 40th anniversary will be hosted this Friday, April 16 beginning at 3 p.m., according to Lori Mestre, Head of the Undergraduate Library.

“We didn’t plan our 40th anniversary to coincide with National Library Week,” Mestre said. “But I think it’s great that they’re happening at the same time.”

Paula Kaufman, the Dean of the Libraries, as well as Mestre will make brief remarks before cake is served at Friday’s reception. Students are welcome for cake and to blow bubbles from the lower courtyard as invited guests are given tours.

National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association. This year’s theme is “Communities thrive @ your library.” Wednesday marks the first annual National Bookmobile Day, followed by Thursday’s release of the “Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2009” list and Support Teen Literature Day will end the week’s events.
