By Daily Illini Staff Report

The Champaign Police Department is seeking information relating to several robberies that occurred in the Champaign vicinity between Sept. 14 and Sept. 15. The suspect of the four commercial robberies is said to be Dane M. Williams, a 40-year-old African-American male, 6-foot-1 and weighing approximately 230 pounds.

According to the police, Williams visited three stores within hours of each other on Sept. 14: Discount Smoke Shop located at 807 Bloomington Rd. at 8:40 a.m., Family Dollar located at 1204 N. Market St. at 11:10 a.m. and Joe’s Liquor located at 1807 W. Bradley Ave. at 5:10 p.m. On Sept. 15 at 2:18 a.m., he hit Circle K located at 1511 N. Prospect Ave.

In all of the cases, he grabbed or attempted to grab money out of the cash register, fleeing the scene immediately after.

Williams has a prior history of burglary offenses and plead guilty to criminal charges on Aug. 31. He was scheduled to report to the Department of Corrections on Sept. 19 to serve a seven-year sentence, but never showed up.
