Pieters headed to Olympics

Former Illini Thomas Pieters will be representing his home country of Belgium in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Pieters is one of the two players that will represent Belgium in golf this summer.

The tournament will be played on the new Olympic golf course in Rio

To qualify, a player must be in the top 15 rankings in the world or the player chosen by the country. This will be the first time golf is a part of the Olympics since 1904.

Pieters was the 2012 NCAA individual champion and was a Big Ten medalist back in 2013. He holds the fifth lowest stroke average in team history.
