Woman injured in shooting at Urbana apartment complex

Shots fired at The Pointe apartment complex in Urbana sent one victim to a local hospital for treatment Sunday.

Sgt. Dan Morgan of the Urbana Police Department said four black males were seen arguing in the parking lot of 1601 E. Florida Ave. around 1:30 p.m. One of the males drew a handgun and fired several shots.

An 18-year-old woman visiting from Chicago for the University’s Homecoming was hit, injured and transferred to Carle Hospital to undergo surgery. She was not involved in the argument, police said.

Urbana police said they could not release the victim’s name, and Carle Hospital could not give the victim’s status without her name.

After the shots were fired, the suspects entered a vehicle and drove off the premises. The suspects had not been apprehended.

The vehicle was described as a black, four door Cadillac that was clean and had blacked out windows.

Morgan said the descriptions of the suspects varied.
