Best of CU: Best on-campus bar

By Casey Daly, Contributing Writer

If you’re looking for a great beer and a burger at one of campus’ more toned-down locations, Murphy’s is the place to go. Casual, nostalgic and classic, the bar’s low lighting and caloric drafts often attract alumni, graduate students and parents. During fall and spring days, the breeze floats through Murphy’s wide-open windows facing Green Street to delight students happily sipping and typing away on their laptops.

On Tuesdays, upperclassmen sit eagerly arched on the barstools for the famous Trivia Night.

On Wednesdays, Murphy’s is the place to be — selling a logo glass for a unique draft with inexpensive refills. Offering a premier selection of drafts, from Angry Orchard to Daisy Cutters to Guinness, Murphy’s is a full-stacked bar that uniquely offers classic beer blends. Their fries are served shoestring style. The staff is friendly and can be often heard joking around with each other behind the counter.

Over the years, many Illini have sat in Murphy’s booths for a good drink, a good meal and a good laugh. The place is historical but remains relevant. Open since 1969, Murphy’s is voted as campus’ most inviting, pleasant and exemplary bar.
