Charlie Puth has released yet another single for his upcoming album “CHARLIE,” slated to come out on Oct. 7.

The single, “I Don’t Think That I Like Her,” originally came from a TikTok posted in December 2021. Now, it has reached more than 4 million streams on Spotify.

What began with the flip of a light switch has transformed into several viral TikToks that feature Puth’s creative process when it comes to releasing new music.

Last December, Puth initially posted his process of creating a portion of the track which at the time was titled “HER.” After many people commented asking about the seemingly forgotten song, he posted a new video about it on Sept. 12.

In this TikTok, he takes us through the finalization of the song. A new thing Puth has recently started using is unconventional sounds in order to create a beat or a melody.

Most famously done in track three of his album, “Light Switch,” where Puth essentially based an entire song around the sound made from flipping a light switch on and off.

In this video, inspiration struck from the ping of his plumber working in the background as a high beat. Four days after this video hit the internet, the finished song dropped on Spotify.

The song begins with a tune and 10 seconds later, Puth comes in with lyrics “Get her name and get her number / Find out all of the things that we have in common,” emphasizing a budding relationship and the hopefulness that comes with that.

Rumored to be a part of the making of this track since last July, Travis Barker on the drums came in as Puth breaks into the chorus. His lyrics, “I don’t think that I like her,” make it clear that things are not going to work out.

The other singles that have been released so far from Puth’s junior album are all about relationships, the highs and the lows. He’s had quite a few girlfriends in the past, but it doesn’t seem like these songs are about one person specifically, more just relationships in general.

We see this in the chorus when he claims he doesn’t like this girl anymore and that they’re “all the same.” His generalization of women treating him the same way shows that he’s having a hard time finding someone who will commit to a relationship like he’s seemingly willing to.

Following the chorus, the drums die down, and the soft sounds similar to the first verse begin again, describing yet another failed romance in Puth’s life.

Here, Puth’s lyrics detail how he’s dealing with his emotions by hooking up with a random girl. He develops feelings and in lyrics, “I found out eventually I’m not her type / Baby that’s the reason why,” Puth spirals into self-doubt after another attempt to find love has failed.

His voice gets low, and there’s another build-up of guitar and drums that lead to the last chorus and outro. Here, he admits that he did have feelings for the girl, but he’s in denial due to the nature of the situation.

Ending with some impressive vocals and the tune from the chorus, the drumbeat ends abruptly rather than with a fade. Puth has yet again proved himself to be a genius when it comes to music.

This song does a great job giving insight into the artist’s life as many of his songs have in the past. The 11th track, “I Don’t Think That I Like Her,” is one of many songs to come out of “CHARLIE,” an album fans have been anticipating since 2021.
