‘What’s the buzz?’ returns for another exciting year

It’s that time of the year again! “What’s the buzz?” makes its triumphant return on Sept. 2 from 7-9 p.m. If you’re a fan of pop culture or want to get immersed in the vibrant cultural scenes that the C-U community offers, this is the show for you. We couldn’t be more excited to get back on the airwaves.

“What’s the buzz?,” brought to you by buzz Magazine and WPGU 107.1, is a talk show that initially started in February of 2018. Each week, contributors to buzz Magazine devoted their Wednesday nights to discuss a range of exciting topics like local events, entertainment and anything in between. Our goal has always been to present content in an informative and humorous way, and we have fun doing it.

And who can forget about the music! Each week, we had a different song theme, depending on what we decided together. The playlist themes were usually random, which gave them that signature buzz flair. Plus, playlist possibilities were, and will forever be, endless. Some buzz favorites include boy band songs in honor of One Direction’s 10th anniversary, songs that remind us of childhood nostalgia and songs with colors in the title. The playlists will be posted on Spotify at @buzzmagcu after each show.

We’ve had quite the hiatus from the WPGU 107.1 studio setting. Once COVID-19 forced students to go back home after spring break, it was impossible to continue our talk show in-studio. Instead, we decided to move onto the podcast format, which continued throughout the summer. Each week, we covered things like national and international COVID-19 updates, hobbies we picked up during the quarantine, and social media drama. To listen to all of what we talked about over the summer, check out our podcast episodes on Spotify, Apple Music and many other audio sharing apps. The podcast has the same structure as our radio show, but with the return of our radio show, we’ll be able to play each week’s song picks on-air.

Events happening around the campus community are very up in the air right now, but there are many other things people can listen out for on our show this semester. Expect to hear about future album and movie releases, our hot takes on the entertainment industry, live performances when they happen and whatever else is buzzing around campus. Of course, COVID-19 will be the focus of some of our subjects. However, it won’t take over the fun and uplifting content that helps listeners with the midweek blues, which is why you should tune in!
