Get takeout based on your favorite movie genre

By Becca Bertram, Staff Writer

Everybody loves takeout as well as sitting back and watching a movie, so why not do both? The activity is perfect after a long day, but it can be a pain to figure out what to order. However, getting the ideal takeout is essential for a fantastic night in of watching some flicks. Here are a few suggestions for takeout to enhance your movie night experiences in Champaign-Urbana.

Disney movies with deep-dish pizza and themed foods

You can never finish a Disney movie without a warm feeling inside. Your takeout should be the same. A thick deep-dish pizza, particularly from Rosati’s or Papa Del’s, would pair nicely. It’s a familiar food that’s never a bad option. Nothing sounds better than sitting under a pile of blankets with a slice of pizza while watching “Princess and the Frog.” Another approach to the best takeout for Disney movies is going with the theme of your film! If you watch “Coco,” you can pick up something from your favorite Mexican restaurant. Watching “The Incredibles?” Get some Chinese takeout like the family in the first movie. There are tons of ways to spice up your takeout to create the ultimate movie watching experience.

Comedy movies with fried chicken or tacos and burritos

I love comedy movies. There’s something special about having a good laugh on a date or with friends. That being said, fried chicken from Wingin’ Out would be the way to go. It’s a food that isn’t too heavy, so you won’t cramp when you laugh too much, but it’s also classic comfort food. If you’re not a fried chicken fan, chicken tenders or boneless wings would be great substitutes. A child-like vibe comes with eating chicken, which is the vibe of most comedy movies. Some other fun foods to complement a comedy movie night are tacos and burritos, especially the burrito bowls from either Chipotle or Qdoba. These are two accessible fast-food chains, and their food items are entirely customizable based on your diet preference.

Romance movies with pasta, of course

This opinion could go in many ways due to the stereotype that people eat ice cream and cry while watching romance movies, but why does it need to be sad? Treat yourself to not only ice cream, but to a big plate of pasta! Whatever pasta you’re feeling, you can order it! C-U has many Italian restaurants like Mia Za’s, Timpone’s and even Noodles and Company. If you want the night to feel luxurious, you can always make homemade pasta, which could be a fantastic date idea. If you’re not in the mood for traditional pasta, macaroni and cheese is a good option too. It provides all the creaminess, salt and noodles you’d crave. Seriously, pasta is a good default dinner in any circumstance.

Horror movies with candy and popcorn

This isn’t exactly takeout, but you still have to leave your house to get it. Candy or anything sweet, including popcorn, can amplify any scary movie watching experience. Horror movies are reminiscent of Halloween and give you the classic “I’m at the movies” feel. It’s a fun way to have childlike excitement of watching a new movie, including having the iconic big bowl of popcorn in your lap. It’s a must! They’re two very addictive snacks that match the addicting shock you get from all the jump scares, blood and gore. Having these snacks is mandatory for any movie night with friends, but there’s nothing wrong with indulging yourself for once.
