The Daily Illini COVID-19 updates for May 11: Pritzker says virus projected to peak in Illinois in mid-June

Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced Monday that the Illinois’ projected peak for the coronavirus has been pushed to mid-June by recent projections.
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced 32 more cases of the coronavirus in Champaign County on Monday, pushing the countywide total to 298 cases. Monday marked Champaign County’s highest surge of cases in a 24-hour period.
Of the 298 cases, 146 are active, 146 have recovered and six have died. Seven people with active cases are currently hospitalized. Around 5.3% of Champaign County’s 5,667 tests have proved positive.
County health officials recommend anyone with symptoms — fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, fatigue and loss of taste or smell — to get tested.
