Every year, the Illinois and Northwestern football teams compete for the Land of Lincoln Trophy, a bronze replica of Abraham Lincoln’s iconic top hat. This year is no different, with the in-state rivals facing off in Champaign at Memorial Stadium on Nov. 27.
This year, though, the rivalry will extend off the field and into the press box, as The Daily Illini and The Daily Northwestern will go head-to-head in a fundraising competition, while both student-run news outlets will band together for combined coverage as the game approaches.
Welcome to Illinois Divided.
With the rivalry game just days away, check out the official Illinois Divided page to find nine articles — four from The Daily Illini and five from The Daily Northwestern — and a joint podcast.
The Daily Illini and The Daily Northwestern continue to feel the impacts of COVID-19 and local media challenges. All funds donated to our side of this competition will go towards keeping our newsroom afloat.
Now that we have returned to some sense of normalcy, we remain dedicated to this community and the people who live, study and work around us. We are excited to begin work on the first-ever of its kind collaborative campaign with The Daily Northwestern, and use your support to demonstrate Illini school spirit.
Your support is more important than ever, and we could not be more thankful and appreciative for our readers and followers.
Thank you for your consideration and contributions. Now, let’s beat Northwestern both on and off the field!
