Spring is a time when the clocks reset, the weather becomes more bearable and the campus scenery takes on a more aesthetic appeal.IL

After months of covering up and bundling down, students can be seen embracing the laidback, carefree attitude on the Main Quad, from sunbathing to playing ultimate Frisbee.

Sure, there might be a few rain drops here and there, but with the temperature constantly on the rise and the school year coming to an end, the rain is simply a refreshing reminder that winter has left and taken the cold with its departure. IL

But the season has just started, and there’s so much more to come. Listed below are just a few events to look forward to this spring season.

Sister to the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts is the Krannert Art Museum. Students can spend a rainy Tuesday afternoon doing yoga from noon to 1 p.m. inside the museum.

According to Julia Kelly, communications director for the museum, the yoga is free.

“Just bring comfy clothes and a yoga mat,” Kelly said. IL

In early April, the museum will also host an annual event during Mom’s Weekend called “Petals and Paintings,” featuring a flower show and exhibition that’s open to moms and to all. IL

In May, the center will hold the Bachelor of Fine Arts Show IL , during which the museum dedicates their entire gallery space to feature the works of all the seniors who are graduating.

Arboretum

A unique spring activity lies within the University’s botanical gardens, operating under the IL College of ACES.

Although the arboretum does not have events of its own, it’s IL a scenic place to take a leisurely walk, plan a picnic or IL get away from stress.

The arboretum includes a botanical garden, a forest pathway, a mini garden and the Japan House.

In April, the Japan House will host an open house, where participants can make cultural Kokeshi dolls and participate in tea ceremonies. They can also just take a tour of the house’sIL gardens.

Holi

A Registered Student Organization on campus, Asha for Education, is hosting a holi-inspired event.

Holi is a spring festival indigenous to the Hindu religion, that celebrates love and the new life of spring with a color festival. IL

Asha was founded in Berkeley in 1991 with the goal of providing basic education to underprivileged children in India. The University’s chapter of Asha was formed in January 1999 to promote this mission.

HOLI: 2016 will take place on April 16 from noon to 5 p.m. During this event, students can gather at the Florida and Lincoln Playing Field and engage in communal colored-powder throwing in the spirit of a cultural holiday. In addition, there will also be music and food for a festival-like vibe.
