Illinois’s Homecoming week, this year themed “together forever,” is quickly approaching alongside the rush of events it brings. Here’s The DI’s guide to everything happening on campus throughout the week.
Sunday, Sept. 8
Starting the week is the annual Kickoff Event at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center. The event begins with dyeing the fountain orange at 10 a.m., followed by the “flying” pancake breakfast, where pancakes are flipped onto patrons’ plates.
Along with the Kickoff Event, the Homecoming 5K race starts at 10 a.m. The race follows a path at the east end of Anniversary Plaza and ends at the Alumni Center. Registration ends Sept. 8, and everyone is welcome to participate.

Monday, Sept. 9
The Illini Union Board will host the Homecoming Party on the Main Quad, where students and community members can have dinner, enjoy music and activities and hear from the Illini coaches and athletes. The event spans from 5-8 p.m. and is free to attend.
Tuesday, Sept. 10
Homecoming Trivia is at 7 p.m. in the Courtyard Café at the Illini Union. Hosted by the Illini Union Board, the event will feature homecoming-themed trivia questions. The event is free and open to anyone.
Wednesday, Sept. 11
Comedian Pete Lee is stopping by the Illini Union. Lee has made multiple appearances on “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon” and is known as the first comedian to receive a standing ovation on the show. He is scheduled at 7 p.m. in the I-Rooms in the Union. There is no cost to attend.
Thursday, Sept. 12
Further into the week, the Canopy Club is hosting Fall Fest 2024. The event features a Slacker University DJ and doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for anyone 18+.
Friday, Sept. 13
The annual Homecoming Parade starts Sept. 13 at 5:30 p.m. The parade features a performance from the Marching Illini and a caravan of floats, vehicles and other visual displays. Applications to enter the parade are open to all.
Following the parade is a pep rally taking place in Lot 31. This event is an opportunity to show Illini Pride and enjoy live entertainment and other festivities from numerous RSOs.
Saturday, Sept. 14
Saturday boasts the week’s main event: the football game against Central Michigan. The game starts at 11 a.m. but before and throughout, tailgating is available in various lots surrounding Memorial Stadium. Tickets are available for purchase based on the section.
