The Champaign Police Department will undergo an accreditation from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program during the end of the first week of November.
Deputy Chief Holly Nearing said the department started revising and rewriting all their policies in January to meet the hundreds of standards to achieve accreditation.
All the revised policies went into effect Oct. 1, Nearing said. The policies and file system will be looked at and reviewed by the ILEAP, she added.
Nearing said the accreditation has been a major goal of the department for a couple years.
“We’re confident that all our files and proofs are in order for the accreditation,” Nearing said. “We’re looking forward to the report.”
