Urbana man still in hospital after shooting

The victim of a shooting reported at the 2000 block of Vawter Street in Urbana at 1:08 a.m. on Friday is still in the hospital, according to the Urbana Police Department.

Urbana police are continuing to investigate the shooting. The initial investigation determined the shooting occurred outside of the apartment building.

Travionte Cortez Williams, 18, and the victim, a 44–year–old man, were arguing and it appears they knew each other. The incident appears to be drug related, according to the release.

Williams was arrested for the shooting at the Urbana Police Department without incident at about 2:45 p.m. on Friday.

Williams had been brought in earlier during the day for questioning on an Illinois Department of Corrections parole warrant, which was served to him by representatives from the Urbana Police Department without incident around 11:20 a.m. at 2004 Vawter Street.
