A Champaign County resident fell victim to an old and common scam, police Sheriff Dan Walsh said in a press release. The individual was reported to lose nearly $90,000, money sent to another country over a period of several months.
The victim believed to have won the lottery in a foreign country and proceeded to pay money in order for everything to come through.
Walsh urged individuals to not fall victim to scams by avoiding sending their money to strangers.
