Champaign Community Forum organized to move forward on six initiatives

A Champaign Community Forum has been scheduled to move forward on six initiatives that were identified to improve police-community relations on Dec. 8.

According to a press release from the City, the forum will be held Mar. 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hawthorne Suites, 101 Trade Center Drive in Champaign. Space for the forum is limited and registration is required before Mar. 10 by contacting the City of Champaign Community Relations Office at (217) 403-8830.

The press release states that during the forum, those attending will be in groups to address pre-identified questions and share their thoughts with others. The City encourages all community members to participate to help identify police-community relations, youth issues and provide ideas for workable solutions, stated the release.

The release states the six initiatives to be talked about are the changes to the Use of Force Policy, improvements based on recommendations to the current police complaint process, review from people outside of the City structure on the investigation report, review police recruitment and selection process, create a new officer community program with the African American community members and host community forum to identify police and community issues.
