The funding is to be used for research in ways to increase heating, ventilation and air conditioning system efficiency. It will also be used to study technologies which apply to refrigeration and air conditioning, it said in a press release issued by Durbin.
“This funding is an investment in the effort to reduce the carbon footprint of Illinois residents and businesses,” Durbin said in a press release. “It will help create the technologies and products that that will drive us toward a greener economy.”
On Friday, more than $76 million in Recovery Act awards were announced nationwide by the Department of Energy. These awards are to be used to make nation’s buildings energy efficient and cost-effective.
