h2. Crime Alert issued for aggravated robbery

The Champaign Police Department is investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred in the area of the 200 block of East John Street, Champaign.

A Crime Alert was sent out around 3 p.m. Tuesday about the aggravated robbery.

According to the alert, at approximately 2:26 a.m. Tuesday, the victim was walking on the north side of the sidewalk in the 200 block of East John Street.

The victim observed an individual step out from between 212 E. John St. and the parking garage west of that location.

The individual then approached the victim with a black handgun in his right hand.

The suspect asked the victim for his belongings, and the victim pulled out his wallet and his cellphone and dropped them on the ground.

The suspect retrieved the wallet and cellphone and walked north between the west side of 212 E. John St. and the parking garage.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 21-years-old, 5 foot 7 inches tall and 145 to 150 pounds.

According to the alert, the suspect had dreadlocks and was wearing a white shirt, which appeared to be a soccer jersey.

h2. Yep, Illinois forecasts of big cicada hatch prove true

DECATUR, Ill. —  Bug scientists warned central Illinois that this summer would be a big one for cicadas. They were right.

The hatch of 13-year cicadas is — depending on your point of view — either ruining evenings or just adding to the sounds of summer across much of the region.

Count Jeannine Garner of Decatur among the bugs’ detractors. She told the (Decatur) Herald & Review that the bugs are irritating.

But University of Illinois entomologist Phil Nixon says many of the calls he’s taking are from people wondering where they can see and hear the noisy bugs.

Nixon says they could be even louder. Only the males sing, so you’re hearing only about half of the cicadas out there.

Nixon says they will likely be around for another couple of weeks.
