Champaign

A 28-year-old man entered the Discount Smoke Shop, 1508 N. Prospect Ave., Tuesday afternoon and tried to steal two cartons of cigarettes.

According to the police report, an employee stopped the man from leaving and the suspect pushed her out of the way. The employee and two customers held the suspect until police arrived and the man was arrested.

A 27-year-old Paris, Ill., woman’s car was broken into at the 800 block of West Church Street on Tuesday evening. No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

Officers investigating a loud music call discovered an 18-year-old Naperville, Ill., man holding a cup of beer on city property early Tuesday morning on the 1000 block of Second Street. According to the report, the man ran into a metal post, tripped and fell. He was issued a notice to appear in court.

A 36-year-old woman’s car was burglarized on the 500 block of West Park Street on Monday afternoon. No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

A 12-year-old boy stole food from a store on the 600 block of East University Avenue on Monday night. The boy fled with three older males but was arrested by police and banned from the store, according to the report.

Urbana

A 40-year-old man’s car was scratched by an unknown person on the 100 block of East Oregon Street on Tuesday afternoon. No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

A 28-year-old Rantoul, Ill., man yelled at a 27-year-old female customer and prepared to hit her, then told her to leave the property Tuesday afternoon at a business on the 800 block of North Cunningham Avenue. No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

An unknown man tried to solicit a 40-year-old man’s personal information over the telephone Tuesday evening at the 2200 block of East Vermont Avenue. At the time of the report, no arrests had been made.
