College of ACES holds 25th career fair

By Kali Bhandari

The silver anniversary edition of the College of ACES Career Fair will take place today from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Illini Union Rooms A, B and C.

“There will be approximately 80 companies coming to connect with students in ACES and anyone else who is interested,” said Jenny Neef, ACES career services coordinator.

Neef said the companies would represent fields such as traditional agriculture, food, horticulture, human-interest organizations and charities. She said approximately 15 new employers, mostly from horticulture, have been added this year to the roster.

Students will not have to swipe their I-Cards to gain entry into the fair, unlike the recent business and engineering career fairs, Neef said. She does, however, advise those in attendance to sign in to the fair so that the College of ACES can keep accurate records of attendance.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for students,” Neef said. “It’s the best place to get to know potential employers one on one. Some employers will be collecting resumes; others will be talking to students and conducting interviews Friday, Oct. 8 or later on.”

Neef said there was not too much difference between the ACES fair and those of the colleges of business, engineering or LAS.

“They have the same mission and goal – to provide students the opportunity to connect with employers,” she said.

However, she said the ACES fair is not as much of a high-pressure environment as the engineering and business fairs.

“It’s a little more relaxed,” she said. “Students will be wearing business casual attire, but the engineering and business fairs are business professional.”
