Other campuses: Pillow fight to relieve stress

By Jenny Redden

(U-WIRE) STILLWATER, Okla. – In honor of Willham’s final days, the Residence Halls Association is sponsoring a huge pillow fight tonight at 7 p.m. on the lawn between Kerr-Drummond Hall and the Willham Complex.

“It will be a giant pillow fight. Plus, we’re having a DJ and food,” said Kyle Jones, RHA president and political science junior. “And, it’s all free.”

In addition to commemorating Willham, the fight will also help students relax before finals start next week.

“It’s going to be a huge stress reliever before finals,” said Kellie Lively, RHA program coordinator and interior merchandising sophomore. “You get to hit people, and that’s got to help relieve stress.

“We originally wanted it to be the world’s largest pillow fight, but we realized that the record was a lot bigger than we thought.”

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest pillow fight consisted of 2,773 participants in Dodgeville, Wis., Sept. 29.

“Although we would love to have that many people, we’re only expecting 500 at the most,” Lively said. “There is a basketball game and Rascal Flatts is in town.”

RHA members hope to make the giant fight an annual tradition.

“It’s a great idea, and I would love to see it become an annual event, but we’ll just see how it goes,” Jones said. “It’s also a great way to get ready for the basketball game at 9. We can get pumped up and then go see the Cowboys win.”

To publicize the event, RHA put an advertisement on Cowboy Cinema, made fliers and painted bed sheets.

Students look forward to the immense battle and hope to beat the current record.

“Pillow fights are a good excuse for hitting people,” said Christy Milliken, economics freshman.

To participate, bring a pillow without a case. Members of the community are also invited to attend.
