Motorcyclist injured in collision

By Jeremy Pelzer

A student was injured last night when his motorcycle slammed into a car near the corner of Fourth and Chalmers Streets in Champaign.

Nicholas Witkowski, senior in engineering, was riding south on Fourth Street just after 8 p.m. when he collided with a car driven by Brad Weiner, junior in ACES. The accident happened as Weiner was turning left from the northbound lane to enter the Phi Kappa Psi parking lot, Weiner said.

Witkowski said he couldn’t stop in time to avoid Weiner’s car.

“He suddenly turned into my path,” he said.

Witkowski said he flew across the hood of Weiner’s car and landed on the street. He said he suffered a broken leg from the collision.

Weiner said the accident caught him by surprise.

“The moment I noticed him was when he hit me,” Weiner said. “It was really scary.”

Witkowski was sent to Carle Foundation Hospital for treatment.
