A commercial produced by a University alumna may take a seat in Super Bowl history next to greats such as the infamous Budweiser frogs.

Kristin Dehnert, a 1991 graduate now living in Los Angeles, along with an eight-person team, produced the commercial “Check Out Girl” for Doritos’ “Crash the Super Bowl” contest. The commercial is one of five finalist commercials out of over 1,000 vying for the big spot.

“I saw that the winner of the competition would get (their commercial) aired during the Super Bowl,” Dehnert said. “Which to me, is sort of the ‘Mack Daddy’ of all stages to get your work on.”

A lot of the inspiration from the commercial came from Dehnert’s friends and things that happened while shooting. She bought a shopping cart load of different Doritos flavors for the shoot and found members of the crew helping themselves, she wrote in a press release.

“At one point during the wee-hours of filming I looked over and four guys on our crew were standing around the cart, digging their hands into the bags and devouring our Doritos props,” Dehnert wrote. “I couldn’t help thinking, ‘Wow, that could also make for a pretty funny commercial.'”

The winning video is decided by whichever gets the most votes on Doritos’ Web site at http://promotions.yahoo.com/doritos/ before the Jan. 19 deadline and will be aired during the first quarter of Super Bowl XLI on Feb. 4.
