Chime Asonye wins student trustee elections

Chime Asonye has been elected student trustee in the 2007 Illinois Student Senate elections, according to preliminary reports. The announcement came tonight at the Education Building, 1310 S. Sixth St. A total of 9,674 students voted, the second largest turn-out in an Illinois Student Senate election.

Asonye, junior in LAS, won with 2,545 votes. Katie Dunne, sophomore in LAS and Paul Schmitt, sophomore in LAS, trailed with 1,922 and 1,520 votes, respectively. Students also approved a referendum for a sustainablity fee by an overwhelming majority.
