Champaign County Clerk Mark Shelden said people who are able to vote should vote. He said it’s a key part of our society.

“Elections and electing people in public office has a big impact on our lives,” Sheldon said. “And if you wanna have a say in important matters in government then you’ve got to vote.”

University sophomore Kurt Antonini, who is registered to vote, said that people should take the process more seriously.

“It’s most important that they’re aware of the issues before they vote,” Antonini said. “I think a big problem is people just voting, you know, to vote. Like I mean writing Mickey Mouse in just doesn’t really help the democratic process.”

The Illinois primary election is Tuesday, Feb. 5.
