A 29-year-old woman from Gibson City, Kara Holt, was killed in a car accident last night at the corner of Prospect Avenue and Healey Street in Champaign. The 23-year-old suspect, Marc Featherstone, failed to stop at a stop sign on Healey Street. He is charged with aggravated DUI and failure to yield, according to Lieutenant Michael Paulus of the Champaign Police Department.

Holt’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side near the driver’s door. It took 45 minutes to get her out of the car. Holt was immediately transported to Carle Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Featherstone was treated at the scene and transported to Carle Hospital where he was released and then arrested by authorities, said Paulus.

Paulus said Holt was traveling south on Prospect Ave. when her vehicle, a 1999 Buick Century was struck by Featherstone’s 1998 Toyota traveling west on Healey St. The impact of the crash caused Holt’s vehicle to come to rest next to a house at 901 W. Healey St. Featherston’s Toyota was wrapped around a light pole at the intersection, said Paulus.
