Who will reign over Dad’s Weekend 2008?

By Hannah Hess

Tomorrow is the last day to nominate fathers for the title of King Dad 2008. The contest, sponsored this year by the Dads Association, will be narrowed to three finalists once the applications are reviewed.

Filing an application requires students to compose an essay illustrating how the local University community benefits from their Dad’s involvement. Each student is also asked to pass along the best advice they have ever received from their father and what his reaction would be if nominated.

“The three finalists will be invited to the Dad’s Association Annual Banquet,” said Becky Galardy, program manager of parent programs. This year’s banquet is scheduled for Friday, October 31 in the Illini Union Ballroom.

King Dad will be crowned at the banquet and recognized again during the football game on Saturday, November 1.

“It’s a longstanding tradition here at the University that King Dad reigns over all Dad’s Weekend events,” Galardy said.
