The bomb squad responded to a call of an unattended backpack at the Taft-Van Doren Residence Hall around 11 p.m. Thursday night, said Patrol Sgt. Vanessa Horsman for the University of Illinois Police Department.

A student reported the suspicious backpack in a first floor stairwell on the west side of the Van Doren residence. The backpack contained personal items and was not a threat, according to the police report.

Students were not evacuated, and police had cleared the scene after midnight, Sgt. Horsman said.
