Preparing your car for winter weather

By Hannah Hess

The weather outside is about to get frightful. Students shouldn’t be fooled by the recent amazing fall weather, winter is just around the corner.

Miguel Mejia, owner of M & M Auto Repair, located at 412 S. Chestnut St. in Champaign, offered some tips on winterizing cars so that icy intersections corners don’t leave drivers stranded in the snow.

-Get a tune-up.

“Check your spark plugs, wires and filters. Especially now when it’s rainy, if you’ve got a bad wire your car will start acting up,” said Mejia. “Right now we are offering 10% off on any tune-up,” he added.

-Check your tread.

“If you stick a nickel in your tread and you can see the whole face, it’s time to replace your tires,” Mejia said.

-Check your tire pressure.

“You should be checking your tire pressure pretty much every day during the winter,” Mejia said.

-Replace your wipers.

Although M & M Auto Repair does not currently have wipers in stock, they can put purchased wipers on your car. “We can install windshield wipers for you, free of charge with a regular tune-up.”
