Islam Awareness Week events on campus

The Muslim Students Association kicks off Islam Awareness Week tonight. The registered student organization will be celebrating all week by hosting a series of cultural events.

Monday: “An Artist’s Journey to Islam,” a presentation by professor Najjar Abdul-Musawwir, an associate professor in the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University, begins at 7p.m. in room 192 Lincoln Hall.

Tuesday: “The Muslim Mosaic: Art Gallery” will be on display from 11a.m. through 3p.m. in the Illini Union Colonial Room. The “Interfaith in Action Variety Show” takes place at 7p.m. in the Allen Hall Main Lounge.

Wednesday: “The History, Roles, and Contemporary Challenges of American Muslims,” a presentation by Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah, begins at 7p.m. in room 192 Lincoln Hall.

Thursday: “Unveiling Islam: Anything and Everything,” a presentation by religious studies professor Mohammed Khalil and assistant professor of Asian American studies and anthropology Junaid Rana, begins at 7p.m. in room 192 Lincoln Hall.

Friday: Central Illinois Mosque and Islamic Center, 106 S. Lincoln, Urbana will host an open house from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The movie “Allah Made Me Funny” will be screened at 6:30p.m. in room 100 of Gregory Hall.
