Several unknown offenders battered a man at Sixth and Green Street and then fled, according to police at the scene.

The victim identified himself as Staff Sgt. Jon Frisbee and said he was on leave from his third tour of duty in Iraq.

“They knew I was on leave from Iraq, and told me I was a Bush supporter, and they started hitting me,” he said. “Whoever you support, you don’t do that. It just doesn’t make sense.”

The victim’s eyes and lips were bruised. Several minutes after police called a cab for him and left, he grew visibly upset and began shouting at people walking by.
