Motion for Huff Hall addition approved

The Board of Trustees approved a motion to accept the budget for an addition to Huff Hall. The proposal would help accommodate the college’s expanding membership.

The Board of Trustees approved a motion to accept the budget for an addition to Huff Hall.

Dean Tanya Gallagher of the College of Applied Health Sciences, said the proposal would help accommodate the college’s expanding membership, including a 57 percent increase in students and 50 percent increase in faculty. She also mentioned new programs of study, including a Master of Public Health degree, which are projected to add a total of 520 students.

Rob Proctor, president of an architectural firm involved with the project, said the addition would complete the original architectural plan dating back to 1925. The intended construction was never completed due to budget restriction in the late 1920’s. However, the new plan would also include sustainable features allowing $27,800 to be saved in energy costs.

Additional benefits would include ambient light, recycled products, use of materials produced in this region, and a healthier indoor air quality.
