The Illinois Student Senate voted to set up an appropriation for the Graduate Professional Affairs Committee, or GPAC at its meeting Wednesday. The GPAC is setting up a Graduate Town Hall meeting on November 17th at the Union and will need the appropriation to obtain needed resources, such as refreshments.
This meeting would provide graduate students with a good opportunity to meet elected officials, said Yong Han Yeong, senator for the Graduate College. According to the ISS Appropriation Request for the Town Hall meeting, members from Graduate Housing, the Alumni Association, and McKinley Health Center will attend.
“The Graduate and Professional Affairs Committee deals with issues affecting graduate and professional students,” said Carey Ash, vice president internal. “We are the elected representatives of the graduate students.”
“The Town Hall meeting is an event where we hope that we will bring in officials from various departments on campus,” said Yeong. “Hopefully graduate students will come in and we can have our questions answered.”
Kara Beach, ISS press secretary and senior in Media, said the senate is working on setting up a Town Hall meeting for undergraduates. However, plans have not yet been set.

“It’s certainly something that has been discussed,” Beach said.
