Champaign City Council will be discussing the development of an 8 story apartment building at 311 E. Green St. at Tuesday’s meeting.

In January 2008, the developer, Campus Investors LLC, was approved to build a 20 story building with retail and commercial space in the first two floors, said Lorrie Pearson, land development manager with the city of Champaign.

“The developer has made an amendment for a shorter building,” Pearson said. “They are also requesting relief from our parking requirements.”

If the council denies the amendment, the developer could still build the original 20 story building, Pearson said.

Pearson said Campus Investors LLC may have to wait out a lease at 311 E. Green St. before getting control of the site.

“Once they get control, they can submit building permits and start demolition and construction,” she said.
