Interim president Stanley Ikenberry wrote an e-mail to the Illinois Connection network today, pleading for individuals to step up and take a stand for the University during the current budget crisis.
He outlined the University’s budget problems and how those correlate with the states fiscal crisis because the University has received only 17% of the funds appropriated to it by the Illinois General Assembly.
He asked individuals to contact their local elected officials and speak to them about the value of the University. He also urged people to write a letter to the local newspaper. Ikenberry hoped these actions result in the appropriation being paid as passed by the General Assembly and signed by the governor.
