University’s ‘party’ rank rises

Although the University dropped in the U.S. News and World Report 2011 Best Colleges list, it did crack the top 20 on the Princeton Review’s party schools list.

The 2010-2011 survey of the nation’s top 20 party schools ranked the University at number 18. The University was not on the 2009-2010 list. David Wall, student senator, said students deserve to have a good time as long as they also focus on success in their academics.

“The students here who continually day in and day out, deserve the right to go out and have a good time,” he said. “As long as it doesn’t hinder their ability to be ready to be active citizens and they give full potential once they’ve graduated from this institution.”

Wall also stressed that “the right to go out and have a good time” should be exercised legally.

David Olsen, student body president, said a large part of living on campus is balancing social, professional and academic lives successfully.

“I think that many of the students have shown by a lot of success of alumni and success of students in the classroom have been able to balance that,” he said. “We know how to learn, we know how to be successful, we know how to have fun as well.”
