Firefighters wear pink for breast cancer awareness

You won’t see any Urbana firefighters in a stereotypical red garb for the rest of October. Instead, they are donning pink T-shirts in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“We did this last year because some of our firefighters’ wives and some of our friends and family have gone through a battle,” Fire Chief Michael Dilley said. “We just wanted to do something meaningful.”

Dilley also said the fire department did this last year and got a good response from the community.

The T-shirts will be sold to the general public for $12 at Brownfield Sports, located in the Lincoln Square Village. Urbana firefighters will be at Brownfield Sports on Oct. 13.

Proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Mills Breast Cancer Center in Urbana.
