No injuries after two fires in Urbana Friday

By Daily Illini Staff Report

No one was hurt and several animals were saved when the Urbana Fire Department responded to two separate fires Friday.

The first fire was reported in a duplex at 2007 A. S. Philo Road at 1 p.m. Both occupants were home and made it out of the duplex unharmed and several pets were rescued, said Urbana Fire Marshal Phil Edwards.

The estimated damage for the fire is around $20,000, Edwards said.

A second fire was reported in an apartment occupied by students in apartment 32 at 106 S. Gregory Drive at 9:30 p.m.

None of the four students who live in the apartment were home at the time and it was reported by a passerby.

The fire was contained to the balcony and did not spread to the rest of the building, Edwards said. The occupants were displaced for the night but allowed back inside the next day.

No one was injured in the fire and Edwards said that a rabbit was rescued from the apartment.

The damage was estimated at around $15,000, Edwards said.
