Annual Marching Illini Live in Concert moved to Krannert Center

The annual Marching Illini Live in Concert will take place at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts this Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m.

“The Live in Concert has been going on for many, many years,” said Barry Houser, director of the Marching Illini and clinical assistant professor of Music. “Sometimes it’s over Homecoming, sometimes over other weekends, this year it just happened to fall on Dad’s Day weekend.”

The event is usually held at the State Farm Center, but because of the renovations to the center, the concert has been moved to Krannert.

“With the renovations taking place over the next two to three years, we had to find a new venue because they don’t have the lighting and so forth that they used to have there at the State Farm Center.

“Generally we have anywhere from 2,000-3,000 people that usually attend, so it’s a pretty well attended concert,” Houser said. “We really don’t do any other concerts like this, so this is kind of a one of a kind, one time type of event. It’s kind of a unique thing all to itself.”

The Marching Illini will perform a lot of its traditional music at this concert along with some of the season highlights from its halftime shows from the current season. The concert will also feature performances by the clarinet, saxophone, baritone and sousaphone sections.

“Tickets are available through the Krannert center ticket office,” said Houser. “They’ve got a limited supply, and last time we checked, they were going pretty quickly.”

Tickets cost $4 for students, $7 for seniors and $10 general admission.
