Interim Chancellor to be announced Wednesday

By Abigale Svoboda

An interim Chancellor for the Urbana campus will be announced at a Board of Trustees Executive Committee meeting Wednesday. The committee is expected to accept Chancellor Phyllis Wise’s resignation prior to naming an interim.

Tom Hardy, University spokesperson, said immediately following the announcement of Wise’s resignation that President Timothy Killeen had candidates in mind and is considering both inside and outside hires.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in the Henry Administration Building on the Urbana campus. It will also be available via live video stream.

Wise resigned Thursday, citing external issues. She is eligible to take a one year sabbatical and will join the faculty as a professor in MCB. Hardy said he presumes Wise will take the year-long sabbatical, as it is per usual in this circumstance.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that Chancellor Phyllis Wise would be taking a year-long sabbatical. The status of Wise’s sabbatical remains unconfirmed, but the article should have stated that it is typical for a sabbatical to be taken in these circumstances, according to Tom Hardy. The Daily Illini regrets the error.
