Urbana PD warns residents about package theft

The Urbana Police Department is encouraging residents to be cautious when expecting deliveries due to a series of reports in which packages were stolen off doorsteps.

According to a press release, an influx of reports of package thefts began in late November. The thefts occurred in various locations across Urbana and typically happened during the day. The UPD cautioned residents, especially because deliveries normally increase during the holiday season.

“We encourage those expecting package deliveries make arrangements to have those packages held at the carrier facilities for pick up if no one will be home to accept the package from the delivery driver,” the release said.

The investigation into these reports is ongoing, according to the press release.
