A favorite among students, a line forms outside Kam’s on Friday, Mar. 4

Though the non-University sanctioned holiday was initially created to drive St. Patrick’s day celebrations to local barsAG, emergency orders issued by Champaign Mayor Deb Feinen and Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing kept bar capacity lowAG. Patrons under 21-years old were not admitted;AG Campustown bars typically admit anyone 19 years or older.

Campus streets were covered in green-clad celebrants but people participating in “Unofficial” seemed to stay out of trouble. The University of Illinois, Champaign and Urbana police departments are expected to release numbers on how many citations were issued Friday later this week.

On Friday, Feinen reported via Twitter that the first ticket of the day, public possession, was issued shortly after 8 a.m. AG

2:16 p.m. — While Green Street continues to boom with students and visitors celebrating Unofficial, many around campus are staying indoors.

12:36 p.m. — All remains calm throughout Campustown for the most part in the lunch hours.

Students are loud, but by and large, seem to be staying out of trouble. Green apparel continues to become more prominent throughout campus, as students and visitors continue to celebrate Unofficial.

11:36 a.m. — Unofficial has been relatively slow thus far.
