Environmental Protection Agency chooses University professor for Agricultural Science Comittee

Dr. George Czapar was chosen to serve on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Science Advisory Board Agricultural Science Committee. The news was announced by U.S. Representative Rodney Davis on Friday, Oct. 7.

Czapar is the associate dean and director of University Extension as well as an associate professor in the Department of Crop Sciences. He was nominated in Sept. 2015 by Davis. As one of the 20 board members, Czapar will advise the EPA on regulations impacting farmers.

“I am pleased the EPA has finally moved forward with this committee and I believe Dr. Czapar is a great choice to give our (agriculture) community a stronger voice within the agency,” Davis said in a press release.

Davis authored the provision that created this committee in the 2014 Farm Bill. He has also put continued pressure on the EPA over the last two years to establish this important agriculture committee.

“I included this provision in the 2014 Farm Bill to bring some common sense to the EPA and hopefully avoid future rules like WOTUS or others that regulate dust and milk spills,” Davis said. “I look forward to closely following the work of this committee and hope the EPA uses the experience and background of these experts as they consider rules that impact rural America.”
