Child in CU area suspected of having coronavirus

By JJ Kim, Managing Editor for Reporting

One person in the Champaign-Urbana area is suspected of having the coronavirus after the U.S Center for Disease Control and Prevention expanded what they consider a “person under investigation” over the weekend, according to a report by The Center Square.

The individual suspected of having the respiratory disease is a child according to Dr. Robert Parker, director of the McKinley Health Center at the University.

Being a PUI does not mean that a person has the disease, but that they might have it and further testing is needed.

The state has 41 total PUIs, according to The Center Square, with 13 negative results and 26 still awaiting results. The remaining two are the husband and wife who remain the only two people confirmed with having coronavirus in Illinois.
