The University of Illinois Police Department sent out a campuswide safety notice this afternoon to alert students of a sexual assault incident that occurred on Sunday. Details of precise location and time were not released to protect the survivor’s identity.
“University Police have received a report that a student was sexually assaulted at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 29, in a residence hall,” the UIPD said in a statement. “The student and offender met at a party prior to the assault.”
The notice was released per the Clery Act, a federal law that requires colleges and universities to report crimes that occur on campus, including sexual violence, as a way to improve student safety.
“For information on reporting sexual misconduct and supporting survivors, visit wecare.illinois.edu,” the statement said.
