Annie Feldmeier Adams joined the Urbana mayoral election last Thursday. She will face Deshawn Williams in the Feb. 25, 2025 Democratic primary election.
Adams, who currently works for the Grainger College of Engineering, has lived in Urbana for almost ten years. If elected, she said she aims to build a vibrant downtown, increase population and improve the city’s infrastructure.
Adam’s policy suggestions include rebuilding bike lanes and making the city more pedestrian friendly.
“Lincoln Avenue, for example, is up for a redesign … that’s a real barrier trying to cross that to get to Urbana, whether you live there, work there or play there,” Adams said.

Adams also emphasized the importance of the student population and their role in helping the city of Urbana grow and flourish.
“I want students to know that as long as you choose to live in Urbana — you are welcome, you are a valued part of our community and you have a stake in our community’s success and we have a stake in your success,” she said.
Adams said voters should elect her because she is invested in the interests of her community and trusts the power of good government. She also encouraged students to fill out census forms and register to vote.
“I would love to earn folks’ votes and be able to figure out what they need … and make sure that the city can provide that for them,” she said. “I believe that’s what (the) government does.”
