Four Champaign bars caught serving to underage patrons

By Daily Illini Staff Report

Undercover agents checking 22 bars in the area cited four Champaign bars for violation of their liquor licenses. Kam’s, Legends, Radio Maria and Cafe Luna all were discovered to be serving liquor to minors as part of an undercover operation by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission on Sept. 24.

“Because under-age drinking is a serious problem, liquor licensees must check IDs,” said Lainie Krozel,Executive Director of the ILCC in a press release. “There is no excuse for selling alcohol to minors. It takes only moments to check ID.”

During September, 100 bars were checked by the state as part of an ongoing investigation into underage drinking. Citations were passed out to 30 bars, including the four Champaign establishments. Both Kam’s and Legends are located in Campustown.

The ILCC will decide how the bars will be penalized. Punishment could include anything from fines to revocation of liquor license.
