*UI announces vice president for academic affairs*

The University has selected Christophe Pierre as its vice president for academic affairs, pending approval from the Board of Trustees at its Sept. 9 meeting.

“I am deeply honored and absolutely delighted to join such an internationally pre-eminent institution as the University of Illinois,” Pierre said in a press release.

Pierre will act as the senior academic officer of the University and advise the presidents on topics that include educational policy and personnel decisions.

He has served as dean of the faculty of engineering at McGill University since 2005. Before joining McGill, he held engineering faculty and administrative appointments at the University of Michigan for over 20 years.

Pierre replaces Mrinalini “Meena” C. Rao as vice president for academic affairs. She has held the position since 2007, and will be rejoining the faculty in the department of physiology and biophysics at the University’s Chicago campus.

Pierre is expected to start his position Oct. 16.
