UI, Urbana police search for man in robbery

University and Urbana police departments are searching for a man after a robbery around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of West Main Street.

A Crime Alert for the incident was issued Wednesday around 10:30 a.m.

According to a University police report, the victim was a 26-year-old University student. She was heading back to her apartment from the Music Building, 1114 West Nevada Street.

While waiting for the “walk” sign, she noticed three men standing behind her. When she got near her apartment, someone hit her in the head and knocked her to the ground. She said that one man struck her several times in the head.

During the incident, the offender took a bag from the victim before heading east on Main Street.

The student was treated at Carle Foundation Hospital, 611 West Park St.. 

Police said the victim could only describe the offender as a tall man.
